The Challenge

To strip out, demolish, install 30t of structural steel and extend two residential properties in West Didsbury to form four two bed flats and one large retail space.
Working in a difficult location, was a major challenge to this transformation project: The building fronts on to the main West Didsbury high street and has a bus stop immediately outside the front door. At the rear of the building the only access was via a side street, with a Primary School entrance, leading to a cobbled alleyway, not wide enough to get any type of vehicle down.

The Solution

Urbanise utilised specialist propping and temporary works design and strategy to safely remove very fragile existing structure, then installing large section structural steelwork using specialist lifting equipment with the confines of a very tight urban site.
New fitting out work for the residential flats carried on whilst roofing alterations and temporary weathering solutions were utilised. Whilst the structure was extended at the rear fitting out works continued internally to ensure that the programme time was kept to a minimum.

The Result

We produced four brand new acoustically treated flats all with separate Porcelanosa bathrooms, gas central heating and modern kitchens incorporating integrated appliances.
A new single storey rear extension and the removal of all internal walls including the Party Wall at ground floor creating 1840 square feet of retail space.
Urbanise worked with local residents and retail owners during the build to ensure noise and disruption was kept to a minimum.

“We have recently used the professional services of Urbanise to complete a major renovation project of four high spec apartments in a leafy Manchester suburb. In addition to this Urbanise also reconstructed a large retail area below the apartments to develop a much sought after unit. Both the developments were project managed from the start to the successful handover completion, in a professional and efficient manner. Each phase was completed to an exceptionally high standard whilst maintaining professionalism by all involved whilst meeting the agreed deadlines and projected timescales. I would highly recommend Urbanise for their level of expertise, professionalism and commitment to completing a successful project.”  Joanne Chadderton, Conferma
